Registering for Classes
Pre-registration and payment is required to hold your spot for a class. Please call us with your credit card info or mail or drop off cash or check. Class fees are non-refundable unless a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. If this happens, you will be refunded in full.
A Note About Class Times
We understand if the times listed below do not work with your schedule. If you're interested in the weaving or spinning sessions, please contact us and we will try to work with your schedule. For other classes, you may arrange for a private lesson or wait for the next set of classes (April/May) to roll around. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Weaving Classes
Weaving classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm or Thursday afternoons from 2:30-4:30pm. Please call to schedule your first session.
Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom
In this two-session class, you will weave a scarf on a small, folding, rigid heddle loom. Complete your project at home after the first session and learn how to finish in the second class.
Cost is $100 and includes materials and two weeks of loom rental.
Introduce Me to Weaving
Try
your hand at 4-Harness weaving. We'll do the hard part and put the
warp on for you. You'll try out color and pattern variations based on
tabby threading. This class meets for four sessions.
Cost is $120 and includes materials and use of the loom.
Beginning 4-Harness Weaving
Learn
to warp a loom and produce a scarf or table runner using color and
pattern variations based on tabby threading. This class meets for six
sessions.
Cost is $235 and includes materials and use of the loom.
Spinning Classes
Spinning classes
are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:00pm or Thursday afternoons
from 2:30-4:00pm Please call ahead to schedule your first session.
Drop Spindle Spinning
This is the most basic and most portable form of spinning. In this two-session class, you will learn drafting and spinning techniques on a Russian drop spindle.
Cost is $65 and includes a spindle and fiber.
Wheel Spinning
In this 4-session class, you will learn the mechanics and drive systems of different spinning wheels, how to handle different wools, and how spin wool fiber to create a plied yarn. You will also learn about fiber preparation methods and how these affect your finished product.
Cost is $140 and includes spinning wheel rental and fiber.
Felting Classes
Needle Felted Sheep Friday, February 17th; 5pm-7pm
Who wouldn’t want a furry, little, felted friend? In this class, you will learn basic needle felting techniques and have a chance to work with undyed wool locks, right off the sheep!
Cost is $35 and includes materials.
NUNO FELTING WITH SUSAN GARRY Saturday, February 18; 11am-4pm
Combine
silk and wool to make a colorful and light weight spring scarf! No
experience is necessary! Finished size will be approximately 8" x 60"
and all materials are included. Cost is $90 and we will need a minimum
of three students to hold the class. Please call ahead to schedule
class.
Susan Garry of New Gloucester will be leading the class.
For many years, she was a graphic designer in Portland, both as a
freelancer and as a partner at Fit To Print. Self taught, she has been
felting for over a year. She does business with associate Martha
Stone as Warm & Woolee, selling scarves, hats, pins, felted soaps,
and wine caddies.
Wet Felted Soap Tuesday, February 28th; 5:30pm-7pm
In this class, you will learn how to wet felt merino wool around a bar of soap to create a loofa with built-in suds! These fuzzy scrubbers can be used in the shower or at the sink.
Cost is $35 and includes materials to make two bars of felted soap.
Wet Felted Merino Scarf Tuesday, March 6th; 1pm-5pm
Come play with color and texture to create a one-of-a-kind merino scarf. Wet felting is a long process, but the results are quite stunning. Choose from a gorgeous selection of colors from our new, superfine merino from Italy and you’ll be staying warm in style.
Cost is $75 and includes materials to complete one scarf. Felting kits will be available for purchase after class.
Dyeing Classes
Introduction To Dyeing Saturday, March 10; 1pm-5pm
In this introduction to dyeing class, you will learn about acid dyeing. We will discuss proper handling and safety and how to prepare fiber. Then comes the fun part! Delve into a world of color while learning two different dye techniques: hand-painting and submersion dyeing.
Cost is $70 and includes the use of equipment and dyes. You may bring your own washed and undyed animal fiber/yarn or purchase them at the shop. Please bring an apron as well.
